T’was The Night of Thanksgiving

Everyone was busy on Thanksgiving. Many kitchens were bustling with the sound of clanking pots and pans, beeps from the oven, and precarious acts of culinary skill with a certain piece of large poultry.

Not the Jr. Condors Mites B2 team though. Their heads were filled with ice, hockey and a busy weekend ahead.

That’s right, our Mites B2 team traveled to El Segundo, California this past weekend to compete in the Thanksgiving Festival put on by the Tinseltown Tournament Series at Toyota Sports Performance Center.

It was a battle from start to finish. Our mites might be small, but they are warriors.

Game Breakdowns

The tournament was played jamboree style, which means that there are four teams on the ice at the same time. Two teams play against each other on one half and two teams play against each other on the other half. Each game was 15 minutes, and then the teams would switch.

Day 1 looked like this:

Game 1: Jr. Condors vs. LA Jr. Kings 5-2 Win

Game 2: Jr. Condors vs. Bears 1-2 Loss

Game 3: Jr. Condors vs. Red Wings 3-0 Win

Game 4: Jr. Condors vs. Jr. Firebirds 8-0 Win

The kids were alright as they finished out day 1 with a 3-1 record. The fact they were able to score 8 goals against the Jr. Firebirds in 15 minutes is also very impressive.

Day 2 looked like this:

Game 1: Jr. Condors vs LA Jr. Kings 6-4 Win

Game 2: Jr. Condors vs. Bears 0-1 Loss

Game 3: Jr. Condors vs. Red Wings 6-0 Win

Game 4: Jr. Condors vs. Jr. Firebirds 6-0 Win

Huge back to back shutouts during the final two games propelled the team to another 3-1 day.

The Jr. Condors finished as the number 2 seed, although they were technically tied for first with the Bears.

Championship Day

Day 3 was championship day and worked a little bit differently. The teams each played two 17 minutes halves for the semi-final game.

Unfortunately, the Jr. Condors lost to the Jr. Kings 3-4, which means they wouldn’t be advancing on to the championship game.

They still had a chance to finish in 3rd and that’s exactly what they did as they took on the Red Wings. The Jr. Condors prevailed with a 6-4 victory!

Teamwork Makes The Dream Work!

Aside from playing hockey, the team had dinner together at Dave & Buster’s and enjoyed playing some arcade games.

This team should be very proud of themselves as they are a brand new team this year. They battled hard with grit and make us all proud to be Jr. Condors!
